Nature of Operations
Berkel Midwest Sales & Service, Inc. is a corporation formed to take over three existing branch operations from Berkel Incorporated. Berkel Incorporated is a part of a world wide company engaged in the manufacture , production, sales and service of weighing equipment , machinery for slicing and preparation of food products , and other related products. Berkel Incorporated had thirty-three (33) branch operations in the United States which were engaged in service, sales or both activities. Berkel Incorporated decided to terminate its branch operations and sell them to interested parties and / or existing distributors of their products.
Effective January 1, 1997 Thomas V. Floyd, Vice President of Field Operations of Berkel Incorporated, with almost (20) years with the company and Jesse Chavez, National Service Manager of Berkel Incorporated, with over (17) years with the company teamed up to take advantage of the opportunity of acquiring certain branches.
The new company, Berkel Midwest Sales & Service, Inc. acquired the existing Berkel Incorporated offices in Chicago, St. Louis, and Minneapolis. The Chicago and St. Louis branches are involved in both sales and service activities. The Minneapolis branch is engaged only in service activities. In December 1997 Chris Douglas, also a former Berkel Incorporated employee, was hired as it’s Sales Manager. Chris was employed with Berkel Incorporated for (8) years, his last position was as the Midwest Regional Manager. Chris’ expertise, work ethics, and dedication are important factors in making our team the best in the Midwest.
In December 1997 Berkel Midwest purchased the sales & service operations of Sturtevant Scale Company of Sturtevant, Wisconsin. We are now serving the greater Southeastern Wisconsin areas including Milwaukee in both sales & service.
In continuing to provide our customers with benchmark sales and service dependability we have added to our team our latest employee Ken Moss. Ken, also a former employee of Berkel Incorporated for over (20) years, has joined our team as our sales and service support specialist. With his knowledge in scales, networking and computer’s Ken’s addition is another valued asset to our growing company. In addition, our support staff now incorporates the service expertise of Rick Castrogiovanni the Berkel Midwest Alsip Service Manager, along with Tom Floyd Jr. our Service Support Manager.
In an effort to further expand our business in Chicago, effective March 14, 2005 Berkel Midwest has acquired the equipment repair business from "Cozzini Brothers, Inc." , the largest "knife service" company in the Chicago-land area. With this latest acquisition, we now have additional service capabilities in many of the restaurant business's in our area.
